Clyde Estuary Methods

Knowing the tides!

Tidal flow and tide times are important, the period commencing one hour after high tide is productive and popular with anglers. Fishing is better when the water is moving due to the ebb and flow of the tide.
The popular and succesful method for bait fishing is with a bubble float, with 4 to 8 ft of line below the float, and a thin strip of mackeral or herring as bait. Toby lures and Mepps are generally used when spinning. When the tide creates a good flow then fly fishing can be productive. When the tides are right it is almost as if fishing a river. The Hugh Falkus Medicine fly is succesful but in general a bright fly is the order of the day.

Of course with all fish caught still being in the sea, they are all in pristine condition.
